SLIDING MODE CONTROL OF A PSEUDOELASTIC TWO-BAR TRUSS

Resumo
The two-bas truss is largely employed to investigate the stability of framed structures as well as of flat arches, since its nonlinear dynamics may present some interesting and complex behavior like snap-through behavior and chaotic dynamics. In this paper, a sliding mode controller is applied to a shape memory two-bar truss for vibration suppression. A constitutive model is employed in order to describe the SMA behavior, presenting close agreement with experimental data. This system exhibits both constitutive and geometrical nonlinearities. The control system performance is evaluated by numerical simulations, reducing vibration and avoiding undesired behaviors.
