The influence of the lubrication in the surface roughness in the incremental sheet forming process

Resumo

The incremental forming is a manufacture process developed recently with high economic return potential, suitable for manufacture of small series and prototypes. It is a new technology of stamping where deformation of the metal sheet occurs locally and progressively, being a process that uses the resources in a sustainable way, reducing the need of materials and energy for the tools production. The fields of application of incremental forming cover a very wide range of industrial applications such as automotive, aerospace and aeronautics industry and household goods and decorative. This work present the application of incremental sheet forming process in structural automotive steel for extra deep drawing steel (EDDS). The diameter of the stamping tool was unique with measurement of 12mm in all experiments maintaining speed and constant increment. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the influence directly on the lubrication mechanism in the formation of surface roughness. From experiments with the lubricants: automotive wax, graphite, MQF, Vaseline, and without the use lubricant. Therefore in this study there was a better understanding of the formation mechanism of deformation in the process of stamping, evaluating internal and external finishing. The results showed a better surface finish with the application Vaseline and MQF lubricants .
