Resumo
In the present paper, a version of the tri-dimensional Lattice Discrete Element Method (LDEM) and Acoustic Emission (EA) technique were used to assess the damage evolution in heterogeneous materials. The LDEM method allows making a consistent calibration with the real material, maintaining an energy balance consistence. The motion equation, resultant from the spatial discretization, is integrated using an explicit scheme (finite difference method). The capability of this model to simulate the process throughout the time is also used to model the acoustic emission (AE) test. Standard results and the information obtained by mean of the AE information allow monitoring the damage evolution in the simulation. Discussions about the utility of this numerical information to complement the real AE test are finally presented.
