Evaluating Engine Combustion Parameters from Cylinder Pressure Measurement

Resumo

In this study combustion parameters are evaluated from cylinder pressure measurement from a four cylinder, naturally aspirated diesel power generator engine fuelled by a blend of 93% diesel oil + 7 % biodiesel (B7). A data acquisition system was developed to record cylinder pressure data at every 0.1º crank angle degree, at constant crankshaft speed of 1800 rpm. From the measurement of the instantaneous cylinder pressure the top dead center was identified, and the crank angle was determined by a magnetic speed sensor mounted opposite to a trigger wheel installed in the engine crankshaft. The pressure data was measured at different loads and it used to calculate the heat release rate, using the first law of Thermodynamics, and to determine the maximum pressure, ignition delay, indicated mean effective pressure and the power generator mechanical efficiency.
