STUDY OF THE VIABILITY OF USE EDDY CURRENT IN EVALUATION OF TBC COATINGS WITH INCLUSION OF DEFECTS

Resumo
Thermal barrier coatings (TBC) are widely used in components subject to oxidizing atmospheres. Such components are composed of a two layer system, where one layer is composed of NiCrAl bond coat and the other layer is composed of ceramic Yttria stabilized Zirconia deposited by HVOF thermal spray and plasma spray respectively, on a substrate Inconel 718. The application of the eddy current method to examine these coatings has been widely studied. This paper presents the study of the viability of this application with rigid probes. Performed the inspection of samples with holes, with failures in the substrate and with failure on deposition of the ceramic coat. Was also analyzed the influence of the bond coat in eddy current testing. The non-destructive test with eddy currents indicated to be able to evaluate the presence of defects, and make thickness readings even with the presence of holes. However, because it is a qualitative analysis should always know the ideal behavior of the surface or the material to be analyzed.
