Resumo

This study presents a comparison between the application of a Lagrangian meshless method and a Eulerian method that uses meshes to study the generation and propagation of waves in coastal regions. The Eulerian numerical model is based on nonlinear wave equations of Boussinesq type and the Lagrangian model employs the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The results of numerical simulations show agreement between the models on the behaviour of the free surface. The largest discrepancy occurred in the surf zone, during the breaking, and in the wave overtopping (runup).
