Resumo

Aluminum alloys have applications in various fields due to their versatility combined with the excellent properties of aluminum. Aluminum is widely used around the world because of its wide range of applications and its good performance in most of them. Is a material having mechanical and thermal properties favorable to its use in various applications. The focus of this work is in the league in 2024, ideal for high strength applications such as equipment and aircraft structures. This study aimed to compare the performance of polished carbide tools, carbide coated with TiB2 (Titanium diboride) and high speed steel (HSS) in turning off aluminum 2024 T4 alloy, due to the variation of some machining parameters such as feed, depth and cutting speed. Was analyzed the surface finish and the power required for turning through the processing of output data, and analyze the characteristics of chips for each tool used. The results provide information on the effects of tool material, when subjected to different machining conditions on the output variables in question. Thus, it is noted that although the carbide tool with TiB2 coating has submitted the best surface finish, the chip features were better when turning was done with the polished carbide tool. In relation to the required power turning the lower intake was HSS for tools.
