Resumo
The present work aims at studying and implementing a metaheuristic Differential Evolution algorithm for the structural optimization in the design of Power Transmission Lines. The implementation of the algorithm is verified and compared in terms of the accuracy of the solution using simple examples available in the literature, like space trusses. The algorithm is briefly reviewed and the criteria for the choice of heuristic parameters are presented. Finally, a more realistic example that optimizes the design of a Power Transmission Line is presented focusing on the minimum mass. Commercial discrete profiles are taken into account as well as loadings originating from dead weight, the action of the wind on the structure, cables and design criteria for load combinations as well as modal (frequencies) and buckling behaviour defined at the NBR8800, NBR5422, NBR6123, NBR8449 and NBR8681 standards. The use of the developed algorithm yielded substantial mass reduction in relation to the initial design, where all the proposed constraints (ultimate and serviceability limit state functions) were met.
