ASSESSMENT OF THE STRUCTURAL SAFETY AND THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF A FOOTBRIDGE COMPOSED BY STEEL TUBULAR ELEMENTS

Resumo
Structures with steel tubular profile elements, especially those with circular hollow sections, have always been used in civil construction for buildings, bridges or footbridges. In case of temporary structures, or for scaffold or falsework systems, tubular elements are the great majority, due to its easy of assembly, storage and transport, beyond the possibility to be reused several times. In addition, steel tubular structures may have fast connections to assembly and disassembly and have been adopted to build bleachers, sport arenas and footbridges. This paper presents the safety and performance analyses of a tridimensional tubular structure. Experimental dynamic tests were carried out to evaluate the structural safety when the modal parameters were obtained to calibrate a FEM numerical model. Then stress, strain, efforts and displacements were calculated. On the other hand, human comfort was evaluated by means of velocity, acceleration and structure natural frequencies. The paper concludes that the adopted methodology is suitable and the structure is in accordance to codes parameters of safety and performance.
