ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THE SHEAR EFFECT ON THE BUCKLING OF COLUMNS ON ELASTIC MEDIUM

Resumo

The present work has the objective of studying the shear effect on buckling of stakes on an elastic base (soil), evidencing the interaction of the stake when subjected to an axial load of compression. The soil is assumed like a constant physical model, ruled by the model of Winkler. The effects analyzed in the project are based only on the static mechanical behavior of the stake. In the development of the work, is used the equation known as Davisson & Robinson's equation, which is based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, that considers only the effects of axial and bending stress, and is used for beams with slender profiles. However, when the cross-sectional area is not comparatively small relative the length of the stake (short beams), it is expected that the shear effects should be relatively influential. In this case, the Timoshenko's beam theory is adopted, which considers the shear effect. In both analyzes, the fourth-order differential equations that rule the behavior of deflected stakes will be developed, taking into account the previously mentioned effects. For each equation will be implemented a numerical method e analyzed a case study to determine eigenvalues (critical load) and eigenvectors of buckling (eigenfunctions). In the end of study, notices that the shear effect on stakes on an elastic base exists, but, it is small and can changes according the rigidity of elastic base and length of stake.
