Convergence proof of a mixed finite element formulation for transient heat transfer

Resumo

A mixed finite element is developed to discretize one-dimensional transient heat conduction problems in both space and time. The formulation thus involves interpolation of both temperature and heat flow. The convergence is proved analytically by means of eigenvalue bounds, and results of simple numerical models are in close agreement with the exact solution.
