Resumo

Shallow arch may experience a loss of stability called snap-through or unstable asymmetric bifurcation, depending on various parameters, such as shallowness, stiffness and boundary conditions. This paper investigates the in-plane stability and simple dynamic behavior of simple supported sinusoidal arch subjected to dynamic load. The equations of motion are obtained using Rayleigh-Ritz method, adopting an approximating function for the deformed configuration. Configurations of equilibrium are show, as well as critical values. In addition time-integration scheme is used to achieve numerical solutions and plot the phase plane of free damped vibration, allowing the visualization of two centers and one saddle-point.
