HEXAGONAL FREE FORM SHELL SUPPORTED ON SIX VERTICES UNDER THE WIND PRESSURES

Resumo
The objective of this article is to present the results and conclusions of the research of structural behavior of the hexagonal free form shell supported on six vertices subjected to wind loads. The behavioral analysis of structures of exceptional geometry subjected to wind loads is not widespread and it becomes necessary to determine the pressure distribution through the combined analysis of wind tunnel test and computer simulation results. Firstly, the computer program developed by Vizotto (2010) was used in order to create optimized shell geometries using a process that combines finite element methods and programming techniques. Physical scale models were built by using the generated form in order to obtain atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel from which internal and external pressure coefficient data under laminar and turbulent flow regime tests. The analysis considers the most important wind load combinations with wind direction variations on open and closed sides. Finally, by means of computational fluid dynamics using the ANSYS computer simulation software package with the SST turbulence model, computational analysis was performed simulating wind flow conditions and the effect on the structure, ultimately comparing the results with those obtained experimentally.
