Resumo

Flutter in composite plates is a kind of self-excited oscillation which can occurs during supersonic flights. In the flutter point, when the critical dynamic pressure is reached, the vibrations of the composite plate become unstable and increase significantly in time. As a result, it can leads to a fatigue failure of the considered structure. Thus, it becomes important to investigate the possibility of reducing the effects of the flutter to increase the reliability of composite structures during service. In the present contribution, the interest is to apply the multimodal resonant shunt circuit in series topology coupled to a piezoelectric element attached to a composite plate to reduce the undesirable vibrations due to the airflow excitation and to increase the flutter speed. In this context, the Piston Theory is adopted to model the aerodynamic loading in supersonic condition, in which, the linear aerodynamic damping is negligible. It results in the quasi-steady supersonic aerodynamic theory known as Ackeret Model. In order to reduce the instabilities effects of the flutter and improve the structural dynamic performance of the multimodal resonant shunt circuit to be applied on the composite plate, the tuning process is based on the differential evolution optimization strategy. After the presentation of the theoretical foundations of the methodology, the description of a numerical study on the flutter analysis of a rectangular composite plate incorporating piezoelectric elements attached to the shunt circuit is addressed.
