Total Harmonic Distortion Indices Assessment Using the Maximal Overlap Discrete Wavelet Packet Transform

Resumo

This paper proposes the estimation of the root mean square (RMS) values (voltages and currents) as well as, total harmonic distortion (THD) using the Maximal Overlap Discrete Wavelet Packet Transform (MODWPT). The performance of the proposed method was assessed and compared with the IEEE Standard 1459-2010 performing two case studies with stationary power quality disturbance originated by linear and non-linear loads. As an advantage, the MODWPT provides uniform frequency bandwidths, as well as possess time-invariant property, which is ideal for analyzing instantaneous power quality indices in real-time.
