Resumo
In many oil production platforms compressed gas is vital for its operation. It is used for sales through the exportation line, for gaslift operations, for well re-injection programs, for electrical power generation by gas turbines and for water heating, etc. A commom setup consists of two centrifugal compressors working in parallel. Any failure requiring stopping one or both compressors is extremely disturbing to the operations and may cause high economical losses. This paper discuss the use of a new surge indicator and the application of Practical Nonlinear MPC to complement the regulatory control of a gas compression system.
