Resumo

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) exhibit solid-phase transformations and have remarkable properties that are interesting for dynamic applications. Temperature dependence and hysteretic behavior can be exploited to perform adaptive passive control of rotordynamic systems. This paper investigates passive adaptive control applied to a horizontal flexible unbalanced rotor. SMA wires are coupled to bearings providing the adaptive behavior induced by temperature variations. Experimental and numerical methods are employed in order to analyze the lateral vibration of the rotor. Temperature variations are exploited showing situations where undesirable behaviors are eliminated.
