Resumo

Conception and design of a control system require a designer and a Design Set, composed of architecture, specifications, technique and controller configuration. At the same time, an implicit but important factor of Control System Design is called resource: time, human and material. As theses resources are constrained and in order to make the design feasible, there is a strong trend to simplify the original problem and abbreviate the solution search process, achieving specifications compliance with few design iterations, without knowing the improvement degree one could reach (which we call here as "Internal Flexibility"). In order to restore the equilibrium between Consistency (specifications fulfilment) and Internal Flexibility (how far one can go into that fulfilment), Control System Design Automation (CSDA) area has emerged. In this work, CSDA environment and components are presented, with examples provided from a small survey mostly from the aerospace area (a demanding and complex one). Also, in order to evoke the CSDA benefits on control engineers, a MATLAB tutorial developed by the author and an example of application are provided.
