BEHAVIOR OF TEMPERATURE GRADIENTS IN FUEL OIL EXPORTATION THROUGH A 12 INCHES PIPE UNDER INVISCID AND VISCOUS CONDITIONS

Resumo
Inviscid flows have been reference for viscous flow. In this work a comparison of results from a flow between a refinery and a distribution terminal in Brazilian Northeastern region is performed. Results for viscous and inviscid conditions, in laminar regime are likened. Simulations were implemented using the finite difference method. A commercial code that works with finite element method was performed as additional comparison source. Results show that viscosity behaved as a factor of heat keeping and made the fluid's temperature a little less sensible to the lack of piping insulation. Some thermal instability is noted for the inviscid conditions at the inner wall of the insulated piping and it is concluded that it might have been caused by the lack of insulation and thickness reduction of a posterior stretch.
