Energetic and Exergetic Analysis of a Supercritical Thermal Power Plant With Clean Coal Technology to Control the GEE Emissions

Resumo

The demand for electricity has been growing steadily in developed countries and exponentially in developing or emerging countries. One of the technologies used in today to reduce in the short term, emissions of pollutants and of CO2 from existing conventional coal-fired power plants is the replacement for these supercritical (SC) or ultra-supercritical (USC) power plants. These technologies are known worldwide as advanced clean coal technologies. This work presents the exergy analysis of a thermal power plant with supercritical steam leaving the boiler at 580 °C and 29 MPa, through the pulverized coal burning, where the exergetic efficiency of power plant equipment are presented, as well as its irreversibility, fractions of the total irreversibility generated, porcentages of irreversibility and consequently the inefficiencies of equipment. The exergy of various mass flows and/or energy of the thermodynamic cycle were operationalized through computational tool "Water and Steam Properties - WASP". With this analysis it is possible to establish in clear and objective way, the equipments that presents the largest irreversibilities, and that ones with a great potential for thermodynamic and operational studies, for improvement of their efficiencies, as well as, the global efficiency of thermoelectrical plant. Thus, the exergetic analysis is a powerful tool in the study for the improvement of existing energy systems and future projects study.
