Qualitative wear evaluation of diesel injectors nozzles' needles working with different types of biodiesel

Resumo
Nowadays, the fuel industries are constantly under observation of the environmental, economic and social sectors. There is a constant challenge of performance improvement of the fuel and environmental damage reduction in all aspects, since its production until its usage. In face of this evolution, the fuels and the engines have changed a lot to fit in the excellence standards. This way, it is very important to minutely understand the interaction between the fuel, the engines and its subsystems in operation. The objective of this study is to qualitatively evaluate the wear on the surface of the nozzle's needle working on a stationary diesel engine using two types of biodiesel. The tests were performed with an overall duration of 150 hours for each fuel: a blend of 94% S10 diesel oil and 6% biodiesel acquired in a BR's distributor gas station (B6), and the same fuel blend additivated with tensoactives (B6a) characterized in the Research and Teaching Nucleus of Oil and Gas (NUPEG-UFRN). The nozzles' needles were removed and analyzed with optical microscopy and the fuels' lubricity was tested using a High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR). The results were treated under the light of recent papers published in Engineering.
