Resumo
Discovery of Brazilian pre-salt petroleum reservoir has created an intense demand for new materials capable of withstanding direct contact with the crude petroleum. Petroleum drilling equipments, storage tanks and transportation systems suffer from constant physical stress caused by chemical attack of crude petroleum on its structure. The advance of the petroleum sector generated the need for the use of materials resistant to aggressive crude petroleum environments. This study aims to evaluate the mechanical and physical properties of Y2O3 reinforced Al2O3 - ZrO2 ceramic composite and its coating sprinkled on metallic sheets, used in the construction of crude petroleum storage tanls and tramsportation pipe lines, using plasma spray and HVOF methods. Structural and microstructural characterization and mechanical tests, absorption and linear shrinkage were conducted to assess the viability of theese ceramic composite coating for use in storage and transportation of crude petroleum. The results indicate that the proportions of Al2O3 - ZrO2 ceramic composites with 20 wt% and 30 wt% ZrO2 with 2wt% Y2O3 composite make adequate for this purpose. The quality of the Y2O3 reinforced Al2O3 - ZrO2coating is assessed by grip tests and scratching. These results show that these ceramic coatings, has been successful in structural applications in the crude petroleum sector.
