Application of a method for tuning PID controllers based on a mono-objective optimization problem

Resumo
The proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID) are widespread in the industry, due to its ease of use, since the choice depends primarily on three parameters. Often the choice of parameters is not properly carried out so that good results are not obtained with this control strategy. Several methods were and have been created aiming to solve this problem, looking for values that are able to offer the controlled system some specific features. The tuning method studied in this work is based on frequency response and proposes to carry out the selection of the PID controller parameters from the set of a single variable, which is able to provide the controlled system with a minimum integral error (IE) presenting a fixed phase margin and minimum gain margin. It is seen that to find the appropriate parameters through this tuning method it is necessary to find the solution of a mono-objective optimization problem. For application this method, it was developed a low-cost experimental bench, in that it is possible to realize a temperature control. Firstly, it is realized the identification of the mathematical model capable of reproducing the dynamics of the experimental bench and secondly to realize the temperature control. The experimental results demonstrate the functionality of the method.
