Progress analysis of wear in carbides inserts during milling ABNT 4340 steel bars with different lengths

Resumo

This paper presents a study of the interaction between workpiece and tools in processes interrupted cutting. The objective is to understand and evaluate the effects caused by the number of outputs and inputs tool on the workpiece through wear dimension in carbide inserts. Therefore were applied carbide inserts and ABNT 4340 steel bar with 200 and 400mm in lenght keeping the material to be machined. All cutting parameters were kept constant for both situations: cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, number of inputs and outputs of the tool in workpiece and cutting width. After machined a sequence of passes, the evolution of flank wear of all cutting edges were measured using an optical microscope. At the ending of tests was possible notice that all edges in cutting showed flank wear and crater wear. It was found that the flank wear was larger in milling of shorter workpiece.
