EVALUATION OF GAUGES APPLIED TO PERFORMANCE AND INTERLABORATORY COMPARISON OF AACMM

Resumo

This work presents a comparison of three different gauges used to carry out performance evaluation of Articulated Arm Coordinate Measuring Machines (AACMM). The comparison was accomplished in an AACMM from Romer, model Arm 100, with expanded uncertainty (95%) of 0.6 mm, taking in account the Standard ASME B89.4.4.22-2004. The gauges used were a ring gauge, a step gauge and a Virtual Spheres Plate (VSP). The gauges were measured in different positions and orientations to determine the errors in length. Ring gauges with diameters 35 mm and 40 mm were used, positioned in three locations in respect to the AACMM: close, medium distance and far from machine basis. A step gauge 600 mm long was used and positioned in four different orientations in the work volume, X-axis (radial), Y-axis (close), Y-axis (far) and XY direction (diagonal), measuring 10 length in each one. A "L" shaped VSP gauge with seven virtual spheres was used and placed in three different locations at AACMM work volume, close, medium and far from the machine base. All measurements were performed three times and the bias and the repeatability were determined. A repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) analysis was executed with the error values. Aspects as quality of evaluation, the amount of information about the machine and easy of transportation were also observed. As intended for interlaboratory comparison of AACMMs, it was found that the VSP is more interesting since more information can be obtained from measuring machine.
