Resumo

Electricity is an essential input for industrial activity. However, the Brazilian electricity represents a high cost for national companies. According FIRJAN (2011), the average cost of energy in Brazil is 329.0 R$/MWh. Because of this problem, the industries are planning to efforts to reduce energy expenses, and the principal alternative is the cogeneration systems. This paper aims to perform the thermodynamic analysis, based on the First and Second Laws, of a cogeneration plant of a large refinery. And demonstrate an economic evaluation of this system based on exergy results. This analysis used the real data of 2011 and demonstrated average energy efficiency, based in first law, was 69.67%. Investment and O&M costs were taken into account in the economical evaluation, and green house gases emissions were used for a simplified environmental evaluation.
