Resumo

The purpose of this paper is to present the comparison between the experimental and numerical studies for a turbulent flow around two smooth cylinders side by side with equal diameters and P/D (pitch/ diameter)=1.26. The experimental data was obtained using the hot wire anemometry technique in the aerodynamic channel, with the cylinders inside a flow with constant velocity. The collected data was statistically treated using MATLAB where was applied de power density spectrum for the analysis of the Strouhal Number for each cylinder. The boundary conditions from the aerodynamic channel were used for the numerical studies. The velocity profile and the turbulent intensity were input into FLUENT with equations that describe the profiles behavior inside the channel. The numerical simulations were executed using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes (RANS) with kw-SAS formulation using the experimental boundary conditions. The numerical results show differents characteristics, with more details in the LES approach, but with higher time of simulation than the kw-SAS method. Comparing the numerical and experimental data is possible verify good quality in the results and allow the use of numerical analysis for problem and giving visualization of the flow behavior in the entire domain.
