Resumo
This study aims to simulate the transient heat transfer in the canine knee joint during the application of a therapeutic heating. The geometric model of the canine knee joint was created based on a photographic record of a cross section of an anatomical part. The epidermis, the subcutaneous, adipose and muscle tissue, the pericapsular, femorotibial and cruciate ligaments regions were considered in the model. The heat diffusion equation was used to model the heat transfer phenomenon. The simulations were executed by the software ANSYS-CFX® 12.1. The simulations were performed considering as boundary conditions the average heat flux of a thermal blanket (qx "= 215.7 W / m^2) that was applied for a period of 40 minutes. The simulations showed an average difference of 18.4% compared to the experimental in vivo data. Our results suggest that the numerical simulation can be an important tool to evaluate the temperature behavior of biological tissues during the application of thermotherapeutic resources.
