Resumo

The paper presents an evaluation of the high-order spectral difference method on the simulation of aeronautical flows. This evaluation encompasses an order of accuracy study of the method, when applied to the discretization of the 2-D Euler equations, and a performance assessment of the embedded hierarchical limiting algorithm ability to preserve numerical stability near shock waves in transonic flows. The final results are compared to solutions obtained with other high-order methods, such as the spectral finite volume and weighted essentially non-oscillatory schemes. The problems tackled present strong shock waves and other rapid variation phenomena and will enable an evaluation of the resolution capability and the computational cost of the combined method and limiting technique.
