Resumo

This paper presents a numerical study of the interaction between turbulence and thermal radiation in the non-reacting channel flow of a participating gas, employing Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD). An open source FORTRAN-based CFD code, Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), is used for the analysis. The main objective of the present work is to perform a fundamental study on the turbulence-radiation interaction (TRI) in internal flows, changing basic parameters and evaluating their effect on the thermal and flow characteristics. Moreover, it will be investigated the influence of radiative properties of the medium in the turbulence-radiation interaction. The turbulence model adopted is the Large Eddy Simulation (LES), using the dynamic model to resolve the sub-grid scale; the finite volume method is employed both for the spatial and angular discretizations (the last one needed for the solution of the radiative transfer equation). As for the spectral model used to solve the thermal problem, the weighted-sum-of-grey-gases (WSGG) model is chosen.
