CONDENSER SURFACE AREA OF HEAT EXCHANGE ESTIMATION

Resumo

The comparison of results obtained by different methods of calculation is the main goal of the condenser surface area of heat exchange estimation. The method proposed by the Heat Exchange Institute (HEI) and the traditional method of Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference with global heat transfer coefficient calculations were modeled in the Engineering Equation Solver (EES). The condensation process data were assumed from a typical thermal power plant application. The calculations of the surface area of condenser heat exchange is function of the tube construction material, the tube commercial diameter, the tube gauge and the cooling water flow determined by energy balance. The EES models results were validated using the Gate CycleT software. The main conclusions could be summarized as follow. The HEI method was simplest for programming and calculations, but not easy for optimization and do not permit calculations for condensations of other fluid different of water. For a fixed value of cooling water inlet temperature and all range of tube velocity inside tubes (0,9-3,7) m/s considered, the lowest values of surface area of heat exchange were observe when tube materials was based on copper, the tube gauge was 25, and the commercial tube diameter ranged between 0,625-0,750 inches.
