Resumo
Efficient and reliable engineering systems are a necessity nowadays. The increase of system availability can be got though the increase of each component's availability or with the use of redundant system, however, this brings higher cost. This paper presents an availability optimization and an overall cost optimization of an engineering system assembled in a series configuration with redundancy of units. As more than one objective function is considered, the multi-objective optimization is applied and returns a Pareto optimal set of solutions. The Pareto ranking is applied to evaluate the fitness of each potential solution. The optimization methods used are genetic algorithm, firefly algorithm and particle swarm. In this context, the aim of this paper is compare all the results for the multi-objective optimization: maximization the availability and minimization of the overall cost.
