Numerical Prediction of the Noise Generated by a Realistic Landing Gear

Resumo
The current paper presents a numerical prediction of the noise generated by the Airbus-ONERA LAGOON landing gear configuration. Results obtained by numerical simulations of the turbulent flow past the LAGOON landing gear are employed to calculate the acoustic sources responsible by the noise generation. Here, the Ffowcs Williams & Hawkings (FWH) formulation is applied to perform the far-field noise predictions. This formulation is accelerated by a 3D wideband fast multipole method. Solid and porous FWH surfaces are used in order to assess the requirements in terms of mesh resolution for noise radiation. Furthermore, a statistical treatment of the noise sources and far-field noise is performed to correlate the effects of unsteady loads to noise radiation. Results are compared to experimental measurements and further numerical solutions available in the literature. An individual assessment of noise generation by the individual parts (wheels, strut, cavities and main axle) composing the landing gear is also presented.
