EVALUATION OF A FATIGUE LIFE ESTIMATION METHODOLOGY FOR VARIABLE AMPLITUDE LOADING

Resumo
This work presents an evaluation of a methodology for fatigue life estimation, with particular attention to variable amplitude loading. The methodology employs the Chaboche's kinematic hardening model to describe the elastoplastic behavior of the material, and the Bannantine-Socie method to estimate crack initiation life. The evaluation was based on available axial-torsional fatigue tests on S45C and 304 steels. For both steels, most life estimates using the Fatemi-Socie parameter with a variable normal stress sensitivity coefficient were within a factor of two bandwidth. The use of the Smith-Watson-Topper parameter provided a similar overall performance, but life estimates for some of the torsion tests were not satisfactory.
