INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL PROBES FOR MEASURING THE VOLUMETRIC CONCENTRATION IN TWO PHASE PIPING FLOWS

Resumo
Electrical probes are a robust, simple and low cost solution to measure different parameters of the two-phase flows, mainly the volumetric concentration. In this work, aspects related to the installation of electrical probes were discussed, concerning the intrinsic complex fluid dynamics of two-phase flows and the sensing principle of such instruments. Different types of singularities can be present in industrial pipelines, as valves, elbows, tees, expansions, reductions disturbing the flow, and this situation can cause variations of the volumetric concentration along pipeline that is, therefore, a relative quantity of the flow,. Additionally, from the literature, it was discussed about the concept of fully-developed condition and the suitable local for installation of probes. Finally, the concept of "sensing volume" of an electrical probe was introduced, which was related to their sensing principle based on the interaction of electrical/electromagnetic soft fields with the components of flow distributed into this sensing volume. The main contributions of this work also highlights that the distance from singularities, the sensing characteristics of the probe and the monitoring goals are important aspects for installation of electrical probes for measuring the volumetric concentration in two-phase piping flows.
