Resumo
The current competitive industry search for better and more efficient products places high responsibility on designers to come up with different products at an increasing rate. To fulfill this demand, creativity has become an extensively studied field to improve the design team's ability to create novel and appropriate ideas. Permeating a great part of any product development, creativity and its tools are a constant need in systematic design. Although extensively investigated, few studies show creativity methods as a direct and applicable technique categorized throughout the project development. The complex and empirical nature of this expertise allows the application of artificial intelligence, such as knowledge-based systems (KBS). This computational approach serves as an expert´s opinion by emulating the human decision-making ability, aiming to help selecting the appropriate creativity tools for each phase during product development. KBS showed promising results in different areas of product design. This research presents a KBS prototype to support the selection of creativity methods. The work illustrates the prototype features, its potentialities and future challenges. Ranging from the ideation of product conceptions to alternative selection, the chosen creativity tools cover a limited scope, as suggested by the incremental approach, aiming the prototype future expansion.
