Umbilical Cables Installation - A Crush Model

Resumo
Umbilical cables are fundamental structures to petroleum industry. They are formed by different layers, each one designed for a specific purpose, functional or structural. One of the most important structural component of umbilical cables are the high collapse resistance (HCR) hoses, which are projected to aid to resist external radial loads, like hydrostatic pressure and the crush load during the umbilical cable installation. In this work special attention is taken to prevent failure by the crush load during the umbilical cable installation. Both analytical and numerical models are presented to estimate the umbilical cross section radial stiffness to resist to the forces applied by pads, as well as, the compression generated on the HCR hoses by the armour wires submitted to axial loading.
