A directional direct-forcing immersed boundary method for flow past solid obstacles

Resumo

In this paper we propose a variation of the Multi-Direct Forcing Method, a discrete forcing approach of the immersed boundary methods. It is introduced a modification in the body force interpolation and distribution function between the Eulerian and Lagrangian grids, which the body force is only evaluated in the discrete volumes surrounding Cartesian grids in the fluid side, instead of both fluid and solid sides. To verify the CFD code and ensure that it has been coded correctly, the Method of Manufactured Solutions was used. To compare both the original Multi-Direct Forcing Method and the proposed modification, a two-dimensional large eddy simulation (LES) of a turbulent flow around an airfoil was simulated. The whole equations are demonstrated and the improvement and the limitations of the new strategy is discussed.
