Resumo

The purpose of this work is to present a roughness surface model to be used with the mesh free vortex method to simulate numerically the flow past a circular cylinder. The roughness model is based on the physics sense that roughness surfaces may stimulate turbulent boundary layer flows. The second-order velocity structure function of the filtered field is used to take into account the sub-grid scale phenomena. The results obtained in this work show that the roughness model developed is able to stimulate turbulent boundary layer flows and to capture the drag crisis.
