Resumo

In order to understand the behavior between brickwork panels and reinforced concrete beams, this work analyzed, through numerical modeling, the phenomenon arc effect. The software used to simulate the structures was DIANA v.9, in which twenty-four numerical models were developed. The results of these simulations showed that the arc effect can cause a relief of the vertical stresses along the empty of support structure, and thus cause the concentration of these stresses in the supports. This configuration of tensions also allowed noting that traditional methods for analysis of the bending moment in the beams can be incompatible, since the maximum moment can suffer drastic reductions. Despite its existence, NBR 15961: 2011 still does not consider the changes caused by the arc effect, which can lead, for example, to an oversizing of the transition structure in structural brickwork buildings - pilotis. Therefore, it is necessary that there be more debates and studies about the subject, so that more economic structures and faithful requests being developed.
