JAHU PLANE: DRAWINGS, MODEL E STRUTURAL ANALYSIS

Resumo

Jahu was the first airplane with a Brazilian crew to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The saga of such a voyage is described in the literature and well documented, as the fact attracted large media coverage at the end of the years 1920. The airplane itself is not well known, however. In this research starting from the drawings of the airplane, a model of the structure is constructed. Particulars of it, like the high weight, the use of a pair of external engines with propellers in opposite direction and floats led people to call the airplane as the flying boat. Make this boat to cross the ocean was in fact a dilemma. The research uses an approximate pressure velocity field, with high drag forces to infer the loading of the structure. Finite element analysis is employed to find the structural response of the structure. Modeling results may help on the construction of a replica of the airplane which is under construction in Italy.
