Influence of constitutive relations on the analysis of strutuctural elements in concrete with strong discontinuities

Resumo

The influence of different constitutive relations on the structural analysis of concrete elements is studied. In concrete, as the maximum principal stress exceeds the tensile strength, cracks open in perpendicular planes to this stress. In order to analyze the behavior of the cracked material, a statically and kinematically optimal non-symmetric formulation (SKON) is used. The influence of two constitutive relations of stress versus crack opening was analyzed to represent the behavior of the material after reaching tensile strength. The linear constitutive relation was not suitable because overestimates the maximum stress and presents a more brittle softening branch. In contrast, the exponential model proved to be quite efficien, representing the behavior of quasi-brittle materials. The validation of the results is performed by tests in concrete elements.
