Optimal Control for Vaccination Agaisnt H1N1 Flu

Resumo
We introduce a mathematical model which describes the dynamics of the spread of H1N1 flu in a human population. The model is comprised of a system of ordinary differential equations that involve susceptible people, exposed people, infected people and recovered/immune people. The distinguishing feature in the proposed model with respect to other models in the literature is that it takes into account the possibility of infection due immunity loss over time. The acquired immunity came from self-recovery of the flu or via vaccination. The model represents the vaccination as optimal control strategy whose rule is obtained by means of Pontryagin's Maximum Principle.
