Analysis of Non-Characteristic Harmonics from the Pulse Width Modulation Techniques in DFIG Wind Turbines

Resumo

The diversity of the Brazilian energy matrix stems from the fact that new renewable energy sources, which in most cases employ modern power electronic based devices, have been included. In this context, highlights the massive increase of wind power generations in modern networks. It is well-known that such complexes cause harmonic distortions in the current waveforms due to the intrinsic nonlinear characteristics from the wind turbine operation. In the context of harmonic distortions, several studies focused on the so-called "characteristic harmonics" are carried out in the literature, however, the "non-characteristic harmonics" subject still needs further investigations. Therefore, this work aimed at evaluating the non - characteristic harmonics arising from a wind power plant, which operates with the Double Fed Inductor Generator topology. To achieve the desired goals, different operating conditions are carried out concerning the background distortion and imbalances present at the point of common coupling between the external equivalent grid and the wind park. Furthermore, an investigative study related to the PWM converter control techniques is performed in order to verify their impacts on the non-characteristic harmonic generation.
