Resumo
Energy storage systems (ESS) have gained, in recent years, an increasing importance in applications related to renewable energy sources. However, concerning the charging and discharging processes, some variables are not fully controlled, thus leading to the batteries aging and lifetime reduction. The development of control strategies aims to protect the battery and ensure a longer life expectancy, so that different methods, such as constant voltage and constant current, are frequently used. In this context, this article proposes a battery charging/discharging method that monitors its state of charge (SOC) to avoid undesirable deep discharges, which considerably compromises the lifetime of lithium ion batteries. The case study results show the benefits of the proposed technique.
