Resumo
Energy losses occur in the distribution systems and are classified as technical and non-technical losses. In Brazil, technical losses are determined by power flow studies and measurements, according to the procedures recommended by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL). This standard does not consider the losses caused by harmonic currents coming from nonlinear loads. Thus, this work aims to advocate the inclusion of harmonic losses in the distribution systems procedures, as well as to estimate such effect. The results obtained in the studies revealed that harmonic currents, in fact, represent an additional portion in technical losses. The proposed methodology not only provides a more reliable representation of the electrical grid in the calculation, but also represents a financial impact on the distribution utilities income.
