A MULTI-OBJECTIVE APPROACH FOR PLANNING POWER AND NATURAL GAS DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS BASED ON AN EVOLUTIONARY ALGORITHM

Resumo

This paper presents a multi-objective mathematical model to plan natural gas and electricity distribution systems using one optimization model. The model considers the impact of reliability, the operative costs and investment cost when planning both systems as one network. This multi-objective approach allows distribution companies (electric and natural gas) to have a set of optimal solutions to make the decisions according to their necessities. Two cases with different conflicting objectives are tested to evaluate the proposed methodology. That is, case 1 testes investment costs vs. non-served energy, and case 2 testes investment costs vs. non-served energy and total energy technical losses cost. A Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA-II) is used as solution technique and numerical results show the importance of considering in the same objective the reliability and operative costs, because i) they are not in conflict and ii) technical and economic aspects on both networks (electricity and natural gas) are improved.
