A STUDY ON INTERFERENCE BETWEEN INDUSTRIAL AND ASSISTIVE BODY AREA WIRELESS NETWORKS

Resumo
Nowadays the interest in using wireless communication technologies has grown considerably, as e.g. Industrial Wireless Sensor-Actuator Networks (WSANs) and Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs). The main advantages of the use of WSANs are node mobility and the possibility of placing sensors and actuators in difficult locations. In this context, WirelessHART is an outstanding protocol developed to support industrial applications. However, this technology requires careful study to ensure that coexistence with other networks will not cause packet loss and failures in communications. A possible undesirable interaction can happen with health telemonitoring systems using WBAN. The sensors can be used by workers in industrial plants instrumented with WirelessHART. Although, this use could affect the performance of both networks. This work studies the interference effects in the coexistence of these two types of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), highlighting the importance of managing the shared environment in order to avoid quality of service degradation.
